The Faith Communities Council of Victoria has issued the following statement in response to the recent acts of violence on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka:
The Faith Communities Council of Victoria extends its deepest sympathies to those affected by the bombing attacks on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka. We pray for the victims and their families, and for healing for those who have been wounded.
We condemn these atrocious acts of terrorism, which are acts against all people of faith who value freedom of religion and the right to worship safely. And we collectively restate our commitment to love, peace, understanding, inclusion and diversity.
These senseless attacks took place on Christianity’s most sacred day, the holy celebration of Easter. As people of faith we stand together with our Christian brothers and sisters in their grief, loss and suffering.
And we also stand together with Victoria’s 55,000-strong Sri Lankan community who grief for their nation and call for unity and solidarity amongst all faith communities in Sri Lanka and worldwide.
Faith Communities Council of Victoria is comprised of the following peak bodies:
Baha'i Community of Victoria, Brahma Kumaris Australia, Buddhist Council of Victoria, Hindu Council of Australia (Vic), Islamic Council of Victoria, Jewish Community Council of Victoria, Sikh Interfaith Council of Victoria and Victorian Council of Churches.
