DESCRIPTION:Chinese New Year is a holiday that celebrates the beginning of
a new year according to the lunar calendar. It is considered to be one of
the most important holidays for Chinese families\, and often referred to a
s Spring Festival since it is the beginning of the spring term.\nThe holid
ay is celebrated with big family gatherings\, gift giving\, the eating of
symbolic foods and display of festive decorations--all focused on bringing
good luck for the new year and celebrating the coming of Spring.\nLegend
says the celebrations of Chinese New Year may be related to a beast known
as Nian. The beast Nian came out to eat people on new years until an old T
aoist monk found a way to conquer it. Then people started to observe and c
elebrate Chinese New Year. The word Nian now has the same meaning as Chine
 se New Year. https://www.faithvictoria.org.au/upcoming-events/event/222-ch
