 inning foreign correspondent who has been based in the Middle East for nin
 e years. She will talk about her new book\, Hope Street\, Jerusalem a repo
 rter’s memoir and a love story\, set in Jerusalem during the Intifada. It’
 s funny\, sad\, insightful and still optimistic. Journalist Ellen Fanning 
 said she “drank it like a milkshake.”\nShe has filed stories from Jerusale
 m\, Gaza\, Baghdad and Cairo for radio\, television and online news servic
 es around the world - including the ABC\, and Channels 7 and 9. She now al
 so files for the new Australian e-zine\, theglobalmail. Irris worked for t
 he ABC for 9 years\, on all its leading news and current affairs programme
 s\, before becoming the ABC's Moscow correspondent in the year 2000. Irris
  has reported extensively from Afghanistan and was one of the first journa
 lists on the scene after 9/11. She wrote about these experiences in the hi
 ghly acclaimed Our Woman in Kabul. Irris has always been interested in the
  stories women can tell and what affects their day-to-day lives. She has a
  good ear for languages and a cast-iron stomach—two out of the three requi
 rements for doing her job. Unfortunately\, she has no sense of direction.
