Darebin Interfaith Council invites you to a seminar during World Refugee Week on:
“Regaining Hope” – Healing and Hope for Refugees Forum
This enlightening forum will offer to those interested in understanding the plight of refugees who struggle with despair, issues of forgiveness, and steps to hope and healing. Participants will be able to engage in educative discussions while networking with other community members and organisations to help build an inclusive, ‘hopeful’, community.
Date: Thursday, 19 June 2014 Time: 1:00pm to 3:30pm.
Location: Darebin Intercultural Centre, 59A Roseberry Ave, Preston, Victoria
Facilitator: Dr. John Steward
Dr John Steward is a former World Vision Executive Training Coordinator (in Indonesia) and Development Services Manager (in Australia). Over recent times, John has been a facilitator of workshops here in Melbourne for those who have experienced traumatic incidence, of which refugees make up a significant number in the sessions. Building on to his nine years of experience managing a mentor program of peace-builders and facilitator for African trauma healing programs in the aftermath of the Rwandan Genocide, John will introduce the group to some of this work that has assisted Rwandan refugees and survivors to find healing and forgiveness for the effects of long-term conflict.

'Regaining Hope' will be the Darebin Interfaith Council's (DIFC) contribution to the City of Darebin's World Refugee Week activities. The Darebin Interfaith Council (DIFC) interfaith seminars have proven to be an excellent occasions for engagement and dialogue between local religious leaders, faith representatives, and council officers throughout the Darebin municipality.
