Janmashtami is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Krishna. Krishna is a deity worshipped across many traditions in Hinduism in a variety of perspectives. Many Vaishnava groups recognize him as an avatar of Vishnu while other traditions (such as International Society for Krishna Consciousness) see him as the Supreme Being.

Janmashtami is celebrated all over the world with joy and happiness since the birth of Sri Krishna signifies the end of evils. A number of rituals (such as 'Rasleela' and 'Dahi Handi') are performed towards Sri Krishna signifying his playful, flirtatious and mischievous side.
