September is an important month that includes the anniversary of 9/11, International Day of Peace, and Social Justice Sunday, making it the perfect month to celebrate and participate in multifaith activities.
Interfaith September originated from the Uniting Church Assembly’s Relations with Other Faiths (RoF). Throughout the month of September, congregations are encouraged to welcome their neighbours and share food, stories and hospitality, regardless of faith. This might involve a visit to the local place of worship, a multifaith gathering, an invitation for guest speakers or a conversation about spiritual journeys and what that means to someone of another faith.
This is not a conversion exercise; it is an opportunity for real conversation and deeper understanding of our neighbours. It is an idea that allows each congregation to use their own initiative or to simply follow the template that has already been established by RoF.
In order to recognise the beautiful work that is already being done by so many, The Commission for Mission (CFM) in the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania and the UCA Ecumenical Relations Committee wish to confer two awards for the most interesting, innovative and brave interfaith work taking place in the Uniting Church community.
If you know of a Uniting Church member who should be nominated, please email April.Robinson@victas.uca.org.au or Larry.Marshall@victas.uca.org.au with a brief description of the work that has taken place.
