On Friday 18 September 2015, the Geelong Interfaith community shared with the City of Greater Geelong prayers for peace and harmony for individuals, each world nation and all life on earth in celebration of International Day of Peace.

The event was organised at the Geelong Hall Forecourt and proceedings began at 11:30am. Brief speeches were made.

A peace prayer and a World Peace Flag Ceremony was conducted, accompanied by Sandy Dickinson on the handpan, calling each country's name as individuals brought forward flags one by one, to be honoured by everyone with the prayer ‘May Peace Prevail on Earth’, including one extra flag for ‘All the Other Regions of the World’, not officially recognised by the UN.

A Peace walk with flags through the city streets led by the Karenni community gong was the culmination of the activities, with peace goods handed out to shoppers as we walked two blocks. This was a fabulous sharing with the Geelong city lunchtime crowds. The Geelong Police shared the occasion, making sure we then crossed all intersections safely for the walk!

Before dispersing, the releasing of doves in the nearby park was one of the highlights of the day.

City Hall provided refreshments at the conclusion.
