The event was opened by the chairperson of Melton Interfaith Network, Reverend Lynden Broadstock from the Melton Uniting Church.

The Interfaith Network was officially launched by the Mayor of Melton Councillor Bob Turner. Other VIPs present were Councillor Sophie Ramsay (Deputy Mayor) and Mr Don Nardella (Member of Legislative Assembly).

To celebrate the occasion a number of dance performances took place from the Zoroastrian, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Baha’i communities. Delicious Indian and Middle Eastern food was also served.

The Shire of Melton is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia, with a growth rate of around 8,000 new residents per year. Over 70% of the population is under 45 years of age with the community growing by about 52 new households each week.  Nearly a quarter of the population was born overseas with 18.8% coming from non English speaking backgrounds.
