The Jewish Christian Muslim Association of Australia (JCMA) invites you to join us for a:

2nd Annual Super Sunday Seminar

on the theme: "Relationships: Engaging An-Other"

The program this year is not on a religious topic, but on a topic that is of importance to all of us, and to JCMA as it seeks to fulfil one of its stated aims, that of harm prevention in the community. The Theme is “Relationships: Encountering An Other”

The topic is ‘relationships’ and we have three great speakers, a Jew, a Christian and a Muslim, speaking from their area of expertise on relationships at a community, family and personal level. There will be ample time for talking together this time as joining in group conversation is built into the program.

This program is open to people from all faith backgrounds.

Who are our speakers?

We have engaged three dynamic and thought provoking speakers to be our facilitators for the seminar:

Dr Ruth Arber (Deakin University): Ruth is a senior lecturer at Deakin University. The subtitle for our Seminar “Encountering An Other” is taken, with her permission, from Ruth’s 2012 research paper “Encountering an-other : the culture of curriculum and inclusive pedagogies”, published in Bekerman, Zvi and Geisen, Thomas (eds), International handbook of migration, minorities and education : understanding cultural and social differences in processes of learning. Ruth has recently completed a paper which specifically looks at the ways that religious identities (Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish and Christian) have been discussed in the mainstream Australian newspapers, discussing the implication of those stereotypes for the ways that Australian religious identities are understood generally and considering the consequences of this exploration for anti-racist pedagogies in Australian schools.

Ms Denise Lacey (CatholicCare): Denise Lacey is manager of the Marriage and Relationship Education Unit at CatholicCare. She manages a team of 37 educators in providing programs that include pre-marriage, marriage enrichment, bringing your baby home, developing healthy relationships, a VCE program, Vietnamese couples and parenting programs, African dads and kids, and programs for deaf couples and children. At CatholicCare she is responsible for program and resource development, supervision, employment and training. She has always had an interest in adult relationship education, and in her role she seeks to convey to every couple that their marriage is important, not only to them but to us and of course the whole community. Denise is a wife, mother, and grandmother.

Dr Senem Eren (Nasihah Consulting): Senem is a dedicated life coach who holds provisional registration as a Psychologist who is passionate about empowering people to build on their unique strengths and experience their life with purpose. She has been working as a psychological researcher since 2005 and has recently completed her PhD at Melbourne University, examining the emotional responses of children who have experienced a head injury. Senem has completed a Bachelor of Science (Melbourne University), Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology (La Trobe University) and a Cert IV in Life Coaching. As a public speaker and trainer, she has delivering numerous seminars and workshops in both Melbourne and Turkey. Senem has been awarded over $95,000 in awards and scholarships for her work as a PhD scholar and has presented extensively at both national and international conferences. Her research has also been published in several internationally renowned journals.  Senem has passion for people and living a life full of positivity. Her zest, enthusiasm and bubbly personality is contagious and assists her clients in building self-esteem and courage to live a life filled with purpose.  Senem has fluency in Turkish.

• 8pm Conclusion
