Ramadan: A Guide

Ramadan, the ninth month in the Muslim calendar, is a special time for the Muslim community, and begins on Thursday 18 June 2015. As a most blessed month, it is a time for reflection, prayer and renewal of faith. Muslims worldwide fast from dawn to sunset, abstaining totally from food, drink, smoking and other sensual pleasures to complete one of the five pillars of Islam and to achieve greater self-discipline, self-purification, and compassion for those less fortunate.

On Tuesday 16 June 2015, the Casey Multi-Faith Network visited the Islamic Museum of Australia. This visit was part of the Casey Winter Arts Festival and the second of the three tours organized by the Network each year.

On Sunday 14 June 2015, as part of Refugee Week, 45 citizens from Melbourne’s western suburbs joined the Brimbank Maribyrnong Interfaith Network on a tour to Places of Worship.

On Saturday 13 June 2015, around 170 women from all walks of life participated in an Interfaith Symposium luncheon in Baitul-ul-Salam Mosque, Langwarrin.

On Sunday 7 June 2015, around 650 people from the Mornington Peninsula community came together to celebrate at the Mornington Peninsula Interfaith Festival. This annual festival is a celebration of diversity- a celebration of multifaith, multiculturalism, and a celebration of diversity within community.
